Please note: Maya's opinions are not always those of the management! Ask
Maya for the 2nd week of March, 2003 More "Ask Maya" archives on pages 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10 Ask Maya for the 2nd week of March, 2003: Dear Maya, I found your last column very interesting! I'd like to hear you go further into detail on this as it sounds like the Law of Attraction in action, or like Lynn Grabhorn's material. Are your or your Mom Gretchen familiar with her stuff? - Laurie From GK: Hi, Laurie. I've read one of Lynn Grabhorn's books, and it helped me a lot. I was pleased to hear Maya espousing some of the same philosophies. Let's see what she says... First of all, Mom, I knew all about that before you read that book. It's just that YOU didn't. Or, at least, you didn't acknowledge it. Secondly, thoughts are energy and energy is power. It's kind of like what you people say, "knowledge is power", except it's not just knowing information, but thinking about it in a positive way to shape life to your will. Think about it: if all matter is energy and vice versa, what better way to make things real than with your thoughts? I'll tell you, every physical thing or being out there started with energy and a thought. That's the real deal. I don't mean making yourself King of the world, or anything, although I am a Queen, myself. I mean that if you think happy, you'll be more happy. Also, if you relax, you won't stress out. Some people get worried, and then they worry about the fact that they're worried, and it becomes a game where there's this ever-escalating stress and fear, kind of like a spiral staircase, or climbing the branches of a tree. You almost have fun seeing how deeply you can get into it (or how high you can climb), because feeling breeds feelings and the next thing, even though you feel crappy, you're ALIVE with all this strong feeling and panic and adrenaline and stuff. Well, enough's enough. If you take a moment to MAKE yourself relax simply by being relaxed (really, if you work at it you can learn to turn it on and off like a switch, when you have to!), you'll find that that's every bit as much being ALIVE, only much more pleasant! So, yes, positive thoughts cause a positive attitude, which brings more positive things. If you feel bad, you are going to act nasty or scared and who's going to want to help you? The same thing with money. If money is the source of all your woes, and you think about bills all the time and wish it would all go away with stress in your mind, you are just asking for more money problems! Take a deep breath, relax, imagine you DO HAVE money, all you need, and take care of your problems bit by bit. Pretty soon, good things will come to you. Like sweet teacher cats! Things will come to you if you need them, you've just got to be open to them. Think about that. I needed someone to teach and learn my ways and about how special I am, and here you came, Mom! Now my messages are being spread far and wide, and I don't have to learn to type or anything like you humans. HA! So, anyway, that's the deal. I am going to snuggle up and lick my tail now. It's cold outside! - Ms. Maya Ask Maya for the 3rd week of March, 2003: Dear Maya, A good friend of mine just informed me that she is planning on having her new kitty declawed in 2 weeks. It's my understanding that this can be quite painful for the cat and the trauma and pain can last well after the surgery has been performed. I tried to encourage her to train her cat to use a scratching post, but she simply isn't interested. She says that her vet will be using a laser to perform the procedure. Her vet ASSURED her that with the laser, the pain will be minimal and that it's nothing like how it used to be. Do you have any input on this?? I would sure love to hear it. Thanks! - Laurie Dear Laurie, You have to tell your friend to stop that right now! Okay, I will tell you that I have met some cats that had their claws out and got around okay in life, but they were the exception and that was no fun. Let me tell you what I mean. Some cats choose to be in environments where they will be declawed because they have a lesson to learn or teach, or possibly because they love humans so much they are willing to make the sacrafice. But!!! Even if the doctor says it won't hurt as much, you should always ask your cats first! Did anyone ask the cat? I know that if anyone tried to do that to me, I would scratch 'em, and run away. I need my claws! They are a huge part of me, who I am, my life, my attitude. I hate to even get them clipped. They are my self-defense! How dare you take that away from me?! Why not just take off all your clothes and run around naked in the freezing rain in a bad neighbourhood, and see how YOU like it? Plus, even though I don't even use them that often for destructive things or seriously (an occassional tussle, really, very rarely drawing blood, even if the other cats deserve it), I'm glad to know I CAN, and that I have them. Why, I think most cats who don't have them either retreat, afraid, or they begin to bite harder, and who needs that? Maybe she doesn't want her cat to claw some things. I know my Moms get mad at me sometimes when I claw some things (though it seems rather arbitrary, and I'm usually pretty good about it, especially when they're looking - heh!). But the cat should just be given some acceptable things to scratch. I sink my claws into things when I need to sharpen them, make a display against the other cats in the house (very threatening! They deserve it - hee!), or stretch. Do you know how important stretching is for cats? Very important!!! Luckily, my moms don't mind if I claw one rug or a particular chair. Those are mine to claw. Maybe this lady could get a special something for her cat companion to scratch on, and rub some catnip on it something or tell her about it. At the very least she could try it! Anyway, I hope you can at least get your friend to ask her cat, for chrissakes. Stupid humans. Not that I'm blaming you -- I'm sure it's not your fault. I just wonder just how long it's gonna take for people to get that we have feelings, too, and thoughts, and maybe if you'd let us use them we could show you a thing or two and be a lot of help! Leastaways, if we'll put up with you. Heh. Well, I hope this helps and best of luck with things. At least you should know that if the cat gets hurt and calls for help to the universe, the Cat Conference will get right on it. Claws and fangs with purrs and fur make for balance. Don't forget that. Here's hoping that lady gets it, and the best for her cat! - Maya the Warrior and Queen Ask Maya for the 4th week of March, 2003: (Note: this question was originally asked in early November) Dear Maya, I'm on Internet lists about Cushings' disease in pets and dog kidney problems, and there have been so many losses of dogs in the last 2 weeks, month actually. Do you know why so many pass over at one time? - Tere Dear Tere, Yes, this is a natural time of transition. Just as the leaves are changing and the days are changing length, so too, do our bodies go through changes at these times. Ever notice how much more tired and hungry you feel in the Fall, getting ready for the Winter? I know I do. Some animals, it just wears them out or wears out their bodies just dealing with the temperature changes, air changes, light changes... heck, even just thinking about it and the Winter ahead! So, this could be one reason why so many dogs are passing. Plus, they know it's better for them to go now, if they can, than in the Winter, when it's really bad and when their people are generally celebrating the holidays, as you see them. But just remember, at any time, all over the world, animals and plants and things are passing in and out of the physical realm, so it's usually not a big deal. The thing is, we're sensing it's going to get colder around here this year, so that may be part of it. I don't know what else is going on in their [the dogs' and peoples'] area, but you can tell them that. Okay, that's it. I'm done, now. - Maya P.S.: Maurice has to go to the vet today, because I bit him! Ha ha ha ha HA! That'll show HIM who's boss and to stop playing the bully!" Ask Maya for the 1st week of April, 2003: Dear Maya, Can you explain why humans are so destructive? You've said yourself that we are the only species that seriously tries to mess with the way things are. I just wondered what makes us this way. And was it always like this, or did something particular happen in history that changed our course in this direction? (Do you know human social history?) Ambivalent about most things at the moment, but unequivocally hoping you are well, - Jodi Dear Jodi, What wonderful questions you ask! I am ready to go. Oh, and also, I'd like to take a moment to acknowledge my Mom, who you know as Gretchen. Often she gets these messages herself from the great energy and knowledge of All There Is, but she does not feel "comfortable" sharing it or believing it herself. I am working on it! She still prefers getting the answers from me or confirming them, as she feels I have a good connection with the Universal Energy and also people like me (of course!). But I want to acknowledge her as being very good at getting the messages, even if she does not like typing this. I have threatened to bite her, otherwise! We all need confidence, Mom! Okay, your first question is a good one. Why are humans so destructive, in the ways that they are? My first instinct is to tell you to look within yourself, and all humans and other beings should. For the tendency towards destruction is in each of us, especially when we are in physical form. Haven't you ever seen locusts destroy a field of plants, or an elephant destroy a tree when he is threatened? Even we cats like to knock a few things over, sometimes! So, the first part of this is to look within yourself and acknowledge that it is possible for all beings to work on destruction. For it is in understanding and examining yourself that you can acknowledge and control your own tendencies, and also it is within loving and understanding yourself, even the qualities you may not like, that you can love and understand others, too. But, humans, like I've said before, tend to get together in big groups to destroy things or other groups of beings in large amounts on a scale no other animal does. Why is this, you ask? Well, lots of reasons. And before I get into them, let me tell you that I LOVE humans. I have chosen to live with them because they are love-worthy, and fascinating, and I have lots in common with them. So, even when I am pointing out some of these things that sound like criticisms, some of them are even reasons that I love human beings, too! OK, let's talk physical reasons. Size and strength, mobility and adaptability. Humans have got all these things. They're not as big as elephants, or as fast as cheetahs, or as adaptable as lots of lizards and insects and fishes, but they have a pretty good share of each. Plus, hands! Hands are crazy! Think of all the things you can do with them! And each of these things gives you humans the potential for great impact on your environment - changing it for the over-all good within its boundaries, or overtaxing it and destroying it. Oh, and when I say "environment", I mean other beings, too. Now, let's move on beyond the physical plane to the reasons why people do these actions, which is I think what you're really asking. There are two major reasons that humans destroy, and they are forgetfulness and fear. Forgetfulness and fear are actually not two separate things, most of the time, but I'll try to explain this. Humans, being adaptable and having to develop their brains and behaviour to make up for not having claws, etc., think a lot. And when they are thinking a lot, sometimes they start forgetting to BE in the moment and TRUST ALL THERE IS. The truth is, our Earth and Universe have plenty to provide, and have been in balance. But, humans FORGET this, and then they become AFRAID. They have FEAR that there is not enough for them and their families, and that they need MORE, MORE, MORE to hoard in case something happens. They FORGET to meditate and become in touch with ALL THERE IS and the LOVE that is within and is the Universe. They FORGET that there has been/can be a BALANCE. This is why they destroy things - because they FORGET and are AFRAID that there is no BALANCE, and thus they have to get what they can for themselves. You see this, you understand? Now, I want you to know that thinking a lot is not all bad! Some people say that humans are only destructive, that they are out of the vibration of the Universe, that in THINKING too much they are like a sickness on the Earth, and they should learn to just BE like other animals and go back from civilization, etc. This is a bit extreme! Ha ha! After all, I like a bit of civilization myself! And thinking can lead to a lot of great things, like new ways to take care of our bodies, you know? The truth is, you human beings are THINKING the way that you are because THAT IS THE WAY YOU WERE BUILT! You were MEANT to be that way by ALL THERE IS, the CREATOR/S OF THE UNIVERSE! Does this make you good, or bad? Is thinking a good or a bad thing? The truth is, it is both and neither, light and dark. All qualities are double-edged swords, because everything has an effect, and everything has an opposite (although opposites are also contained in the whole, if you will understand that). So, why are human beings so destructive? Well, part of the way you were built leads you to THINK, which, if done in certain ways can make you FORGET and FEAR and thus DESTROY in reaction to that. BUT, it does not always have to be that way. More and more humans are learning to THINK in ways that are constructive, instead, and BE in the way of meditating and feeling the Universal Energy. We are all on a journey, an experiment, and humans have their own great, unique part to play in it. So, observe and learn from the process, and don't despair! Everyone makes mistakes, and there always must be some form of destruction, for it is the opposite of creation. But also, they are sides of the same coin, because as I've discussed before, there is no such thing as complete loss of energy or matter, just transformation and interchange. You understand? Oh, and one more thing on that. Never forget that just because humans have a form and an energy pattern similar to each other as you are all part of one, as you people put it, "species", each of you are still individuals, and different! Thus, you are not all doomed or determined one way or another as an entire species any more than any other is, as individuals always have freedom in their choices and behaviours. Now, your second question is, have humans always been like this, at least as long as you humans have been around (which is not forever, in your current vibrations/forms!)? The answer is, both yes and no (don't you love it?!). Humans as you know them have always had certain characteristics such as THINKING and having HANDS that they use and stuff, that have made them prone to FORGETTING on occasion and then being AFRAID. But, like all creatures, you have learned to use them in different ways over time and space. Yes, you have the capabilities to be much more destructive, with your tools and machines, now than you once were. Yes, there are a lot more of you, which tends to make you AFRAID that the Universe will not provide enough. BUT! You have also developed new ways of communication, and to help each other. Plus, a lot of you are beginning to come full circle to REMEMBER and LEARN the ways of JUST BEING so that you can heal yourselves and not be so destructive. It is all a journey you are on! You can never say that there was a human society or beings that did not destroy while they were corporal, because part of being in bodies is having to destroy something (we all need to eat, right? and sometimes compete to survive?). But, have there been human societies within time as you know it that destroyed less than your present ones do? Yes. And also ones that have destroyed more. I hope these answers make sense to you and do not frustrate you, but rather lead you to the core inside all of us, the circular ebb and tide of energy that is a part of being and being within ALL THERE IS. There are no absolutes: destruction versus construction. Do you understand? So to judge all humans as destructive is difficult, plus highly relative. Plus, remember, you are CREATED to have the abilities and characteristic and possibilities that you have, so it can't be all wrong! (cat smile) Best wishes, - Maya, Guru Princess, and Her Mom (even if her head is spinning!) More "Ask Maya" archives on pages 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10
